Worth It
As I looked around at the sweet faces of Hope Africa's sponsored children, I was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude for the many generous sponsors who lovingly give of their resources and hearts for them. I know that if only each sponsor could see their child in person, they would also feel overcome with emotion! What a beautiful gift these children are.
Every time I visit the program, I am reminded of one thing: They are worth it. They are worth the small sacrifices we make to support them in their education. They are worth the prayers, the heartfelt letters, the continual investment of Ugandan staff and pastors into their spiritual and emotional lives. They are worth the 24-30 hours of travel it takes for me to see them face-to-face.....even though I really dislike flying! They are worthy of God's grace and mercy because He is the One who created them to be unique, beautiful people.
Just after I started this post, I received a phone call from a lovely retired couple who were sponsoring eleven children. They asked if they could add two more children to their list. "Um, are you sure you want to do that? I mean, you are already giving so much, and this will bring you to thirteen children!" I asked.
"Well, we think about the children in Uganda every day and how great their needs are. Besides, we would rather give our money to help them than go on a cruise or something." Yes, they are right. The children have greater value than any material thing we could buy. They are worth it!
